Cherry Blossoms in Bonn

Spring in Germany means: The birds are chirping, the weather is finally getting a little warmer, the sun is laughing from a cloudless sky and nature presents itself in the most beautiful colors. The first buds sprout, flowers open their heads and a sweet smell is in the air.

The most beautiful and probably the strongest effect that nature conjures up every spring is the bright pink flowers of the Japanese cherry in Bonn Germany.

Japanese Cherry Blossoms

In Japan, cherry blossoms are revered for their beauty.

Cherry blossoms are revered for their beauty particularly in Japan, but also in Germany there are worthwhile places that shine in bloom magic in spring. Besides Bonn cherry blossom, there is the Cherry Blossom Festival in Berlin.

Essential Travel Tips for Bonn Cherry Blossom

Timing

Of course, if you want to see the cherry blossom in full bloom, timing is crucial. Cherries usually bloom between mid-March and mid-April. Unfortunately, a precise point in time cannot be determined since this majorly depends on the weather. If it gets warm early, the cherry blossom can take place earlier. If it’s more cold, it will take some more time for the cherries to bloom.

But, as soon as the flowers sprout, you have to hurry. The pink splendor won’t last long – approximately only about a week. Luckily, one resident runs the cherry blossom blog where she posts regular updates; just click here if you’re interested.

Location | Where most trees bloom

The avenues that you’ve probably admired on Instagram already are Heerstraße and Breitestraße. Here, you’ll find the most cherry trees and they’re so close together that they form a fairytale alley made of pink flowers.

How to get there

Please note that parking spaces around Heerstraße are rare. Hence, it makes sense to travel to Bonn by public transport or – especially if you want to take photos – arrive early.

If you’re lucky enough, you’ll find free parking lots at Heerstraße. Please remember that most parking spaces are reserved for residents and you’re only allowed to stand on the roadside parking spaces with a residents‘ parking permit. However, there are always parking spaces in between which you can use up to two hours free of charge. Otherwise, search for a parking space nearby or look for parking garages.

Photography Tips

If you want to take some photos of the Bonn cherry blossom, arrive early. Between 7am and 9am usually works best since there are less people around and the light is soft and flattering.

Don’t even try to visit Heerstraße during lunch time, because it’ll be for sure hopelessly crowded. When the cherry blossom is in full bloom, tourists from all over the world as well as amateur- and professional photographers, residents, and business people come by to experience the pink blossom magic.

So, if you can: go early and enjoy this very special place without the crowds.

Photography Inspiration

Especially if you’ve never been to a destination, photography inspiration can be very crucial because it gives you a feeling of how the surrounding will look like, how the light will affect your photos and so much more. We love to research our photography locations well before.

For Bonn cherry blossom, #kirschblütebonn or #heerstraße as well as #kibo or #bonn will give you some inspiration and we’re sure you’ll find some great motifs. If you’ve managed to get some beautiful photos of the cherry blossom in Bonn, you can submit them to a photography competition and win great prizes. For these purposes, just check out the blog recommended beforehand.
